Soffits

Professional Soffit Installation by LC Joinery Scotland in Fife

Soffits are the horizontal beams visible when looking up at the underside of the eaves. They work alongside fascias to seal off the ends of rafters, giving your roof a finished appearance. However, soffits do more than just enhance the aesthetics of your home; they play crucial roles in waterproofing and ventilation.

Key Functions of Soffits

Waterproofing and Pest Prevention: Soffits, along with fascias, seal your roof against rain and prevent pests such as birds and squirrels from entering.

Ventilation: While it's essential to waterproof your roof, a completely sealed roof can lead to condensation in your attic, causing mould and rot. Soffits help in ventilating your roof space, allowing moisture-laden air to escape and preventing condensation.

Why Ventilation Matters

Moisture from daily activities like bathing, cooking, and even breathing can find its way into your roof space. In the colder roof space, this moisture can condense on cold surfaces, leading to dampness and mould. Proper ventilation via soffits ensures a steady stream of outside air carries off any water vapour before it condenses, maintaining a dry and healthy attic.

Materials and Options

PVC Soffits: The most popular choice for soffits today is PVC, known for its low maintenance, lightweight, and long-lasting properties. We typically provide a 9mm hollow PVC soffit board with an attractive profile similar to cladding. Ventilation discs can be added as needed.

We also offer flat, solid PVC soffit boards with optional integrated ventilation strips or custom-fit ventilation on plain soffits. PVC soffits are available in various colors, including white, rosewood, oak, black, and the popular anthracite.

Timber Soffits: For a more traditional look, we offer timber soffits that can be painted to match your existing woodwork.
